About Me


My name is Josh Maurer and I am 25 years old. I have lived in the Santa Cruz California Mountains my whole life. Currently I am living with my wife Emily and our two awesome dogs Charlotte (left) and Haley (right).

 

I started riding bikes when I was around 8 years old. After doing that for a few years I started racing BMX. I then got into dirt bikes. After a couple years of dirt biking I started racing and eventually picked up a couple great sponsors. But after an neck injury during a race, I stopped everything all together. At 19 I started riding downhill and it was all over from there...

I seemed to pick it up much quicker than my friends who got me into it because of my biking/motocross background. Now, I ride 4-5 days a week up in the hills of Santa Cruz. Now every day I'm not riding, I wish I was.

 
Some more about me
 
Well, besides riding bikes I love watching movies and photography. I have also been really into European cars ever since I could drive. I am now driving a 1991 VW Jetta GLI. Love this little car. We also just picked up a super sweet 1989 Toyota 4x4 pickup.
What inspires me to compete?
 
I think one of the major things that inspire me to compete is my friends. They are always pushing each other to go bigger and faster every time we ride. I would also say that I do it for myself. I really just enjoy the competitive atmosphere that comes with racing. It really is a rush and a lot of fun!
 


Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
 
I do train. I try and get on my bike as much as possible to build my riding skills and keep in shape. I normally ride 4-5 days a week depending on the weather. Recently I have been riding my road bike a bunch (commuting to work about 8 miles a day) to help build my cardio up. I also work out at the gym 2-3 days a week as well. For 2010 I am trying a new training program designed by the guy who has trained many other pro racers in the World Cup Circut. I work Monday-Friday at a fast growing software company in Santa Cruz CA doing Technical Support for online schools all over the United States.
